'What makes a good portrait' was a post in celebration of the single frame. And I stand by it! Here however we look at it's limitations and the power and impact of the the photo essay, which is my approach to personal branding and editorial photography.

Before anything else, your portrait is a form of documenting your self. A good portrait will reveal some truth of your self. I talk a little more about this in my post WHEN AND WHY TO USE A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER.
But your portrait also matters in lots of other ways, It matters to different people, at different times, from different places. And I think this is very important to appreciate when we think of your portrait as visual representation of you. These are my insights and beliefs on why portraiture matters, but what are your? First impressions are formed in 50 milliseconds! Content is King and imagery is Queen. Your portrait has never had more room to shine and been so necessary. There are many reasons why your portrait is important now, and in fact always has been. From increasing trust with your potential customers, to celebrating yourselves in all your glory!
